Boothtown Housing Plans - Time for Consultation
Your local Labour councillors are calling for the Council to start talking to local people about plans that could lead to hundreds of new houses being built in the Boothtown†area.
Last year, Calderdale Council’s Conservative leadership signed up to a bid for “Growth Point” status. This will bring millions of pounds of Government money for “infrastructure” - the roads, schools, and so on, needed to support new housing. But in return, it assumes a number of sites will be developed for housing in the next few years.
One of these sites is the area from Grantham Road through to Canker Lane beyond Reflecting Roadstuds, and down to Old Lane.
A feasibility study is to start shortly, and it’s claimed that the site could provide up to 250 new homes, starting in 2011 onwards.
Labour Says
“It’s time local people were told about these plans. Some parts of this site might benefit from new development; and if new housing is going to happen, then it should be planned for with investment in roads, schools and other public services.
“On the other hand, extra houses could mean more traffic on Boothtown Road and Old Lane, the loss of some open space, and the loss of employment land.”
